Which intraocular lens material should I choose, hydrophilic or hydrophobic?
Hydrophilic acrylic lenses unfold slowly and predictably, which makes them forgiving to handle through a small incision. Hydrophobic acrylic lenses show lower rates of posterior capsule opacification in comparative trials. Agaaz supplies both — OP-FOLD AS and i-Nera are hydrophilic, OP-VIEW AS and TRICENTRA are hydrophobic.
What is an ophthalmic viscosurgical device used for in cataract surgery?
An OVD forms and holds the anterior chamber, protects the corneal endothelium and creates working space for capsulorhexis and lens implantation. Cohesive OVDs such as sodium hyaluronate hold space and remove cleanly; dispersive HPMC formulations coat tissue and stay in place longer during phacoemulsification.
Why is trypan blue used during cataract surgery?
Trypan blue selectively stains the anterior lens capsule, restoring the contrast a surgeon needs to complete a continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis. It matters most where the red reflex is poor — mature and white cataracts, dense corneal scarring and narrow pupils.
What is intracameral moxifloxacin given for?
Intracameral moxifloxacin is injected into the anterior chamber at the end of cataract surgery as prophylaxis against post-operative endophthalmitis. It places the antibiotic directly where contamination occurs, rather than relying on topical drops to reach therapeutic levels inside the eye.
