CLINICAL PURPOSE

Designed to make the
capsule edge unmistakable.

OP‑BLUE is positioned for cataract procedures where surgeons want more visual control at the capsule. A straightforward, high-impact step that supports workflow consistency.

Capsular Visibility

Improves anterior capsule contrast so the tear edge stays clear, visible, and controllable throughout capsulorhexis.

Mature Cataracts

Supports confident capsulorhexis in mature white cataracts, poor red reflex cases, and eyes with reduced capsular landmarks.

Workflow Integration

Easy to place within existing cataract protocols without disrupting OT rhythm — a single step before capsulorhexis.

Vitreoretinal Use

Also used to stain epiretinal membranes (ERM) and internal limiting membranes (ILM) during vitreoretinal procedures.

APPLICATION TECHNIQUE

How to use trypan blue for capsule staining.

A standardized technique for consistent capsular visualisation across routine and complex cataract cases.

1

Air Bubble

Inject an air bubble into the anterior chamber to minimize dilution of the dye by aqueous.

2

Apply Dye

Carefully apply OP‑BLUE onto the anterior lens capsule using a blunt cannula. Staining occurs on contact.

3

Irrigate

Irrigate the anterior chamber with balanced salt solution to remove all excess dye.

4

Capsulorhexis

Proceed with capsulorhexis. The stained capsule edge remains clearly visible throughout the procedure.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common questions about
trypan blue and OP‑BLUE.

What is trypan blue ophthalmic solution used for?
Trypan blue ophthalmic solution 0.06% is a selective tissue staining agent used during cataract surgery to stain the anterior lens capsule. It improves capsular visibility, making capsulorhexis easier and more controlled — especially in mature white cataracts, eyes with poor red reflex, corneal scarring, or narrow pupils. It is also used to stain epiretinal and internal limiting membranes during vitreoretinal surgery.
How is OP‑BLUE applied during cataract surgery?
An air bubble is injected into the anterior chamber to minimize dilution. OP‑BLUE is then carefully applied onto the anterior lens capsule using a blunt cannula. Staining is achieved on contact with the capsule. Excess dye is irrigated from the anterior chamber with balanced salt solution before proceeding with capsulorhexis.
What pack sizes is OP‑BLUE available in?
OP‑BLUE is available in two presentations: 1 ml and 1.5 ml sterile single-use formats. Both contain trypan blue 0.06% w/v ophthalmic solution.
Who manufactures OP‑BLUE and where is it exported?
OP‑BLUE is manufactured by Agaaz Ophthalmics in India. It is one of Agaaz's most widely used products and is trusted by surgeons in 15+ countries across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and other international markets. It is Agaaz's best-selling product both domestically and internationally.
Is trypan blue safe for intraocular use?
Trypan blue 0.06% has been used extensively worldwide for anterior capsule staining. Studies show no cytotoxic effects on corneal endothelial cells at surgical concentrations. The dye does not penetrate the capsule and excess is removed by irrigation. Important: trypan blue should not be used with non-hydrated hydrophilic acrylic IOLs, as the lens may absorb the dye.
