VISCOSITY COMPARISON

Choose your viscosity.

Three grades to match surgeon preference and case requirements — from balanced handling to high-viscosity tamponade.

Standard
RETSIL 1000
1000 cSt
A widely used viscosity profile selected for balanced handling in vitreoretinal surgery. Smooth, predictable fill and removal workflow.
Mid-Range
RETSIL 1300
1300 cSt
For centres that want a slightly thicker feel compared to standard 1000 cSt, while still keeping intraoperative handling straightforward.
✦ Coming Soon
High Viscosity
RETSIL 5000
5000 cSt
Higher viscosity for surgeons and centres that prefer a denser oil profile. Built for complex cases requiring stronger tamponade force.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common questions about
RETSIL silicone oil.

Everything VR surgeons, distributors, and procurement teams typically ask.

RETSIL is a high-purity ophthalmic silicone oil (polydimethylsiloxane) used as a vitreoretinal tamponade agent. It is injected into the vitreous cavity during vitrectomy surgery to provide internal tamponade — pressing the detached retina against the retinal pigment epithelium to support reattachment. Used in retinal detachment repair, proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR), giant retinal tears, and other complex vitreoretinal conditions.
1000 cSt is the most widely used viscosity in vitreoretinal surgery, offering balanced handling for smooth fill and removal. 1300 cSt provides a slightly thicker feel for surgeons who prefer more body during injection and tamponade, while still maintaining straightforward intraoperative handling. The choice depends on surgeon preference and case requirements.
RETSIL 5000 cSt is currently in final preparation and will be available soon. This high-viscosity variant is designed for surgeons who prefer a denser tamponade profile for complex cases including inferior retinal detachments. Contact Agaaz Ophthalmics for launch timeline updates and pre-registration interest.
Higher viscosity silicone oils (e.g., 5000 cSt) provide stronger tamponade force and remain more cohesive in the vitreous cavity. They may be preferred for inferior retinal detachments and complex PVR cases. However, they require more force for injection and removal. Lower viscosities (1000–1300 cSt) are easier to handle intraoperatively and preferred for routine retinal detachment cases.
RETSIL is manufactured for Agaaz Ophthalmics, based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Agaaz is a manufacturer and global exporter of ophthalmic surgical products — including IOLs, OVDs, solutions, silicone oils, instruments, and diagnostics — serving vitreoretinal and cataract surgeons in 15+ countries worldwide.
